I have a guest blogger today. Mare Cromwell is a sister earth mage. I jokingly say I’m the Earth Mage: West Coast Division, and Mare is the Earth Mage: East Coast Division. She shares with me her passion for our Mother Planet, and works tirelessly to educate people about the danger we place ourselves and every other sentient being on the planet in with our wasteful and energy-guzzling ways.
Mare recently penned a delightful short book that I had the privilege to edit. I’ve asked her to share it with my readers today, because I believe Mare’s message is one that needs to be heard. Earth Mother Might Just Have Something to Say

I wrote Messages From Mother … Earth Mother in only five weeks, in the summer of 2012 after some intense spiritual experiences in June. Essentially, I was diagnosed with lymphoma and serendipitously, several days later, participated in a private healing ceremony for Earth Mother with a gifted medicine person. Just a week after that, I was guided by Spirit to go to the wild beaches of Assateague to do ceremony for the dolphins and whales. While there I was instructed by Spirit to put aside an entirely different manuscript about the Sacred Feminine that I had been drafting all winter and spring and write Messages From Mother…. Earth Mother.
My body was sick and I just surrendered to what Spirit guided me to do. Is it Earth Mother whom has been guiding me? Perhaps. Indigenous peoples across the planet believe she exists and I agree with them. After sixteen years of studying with Native American teachers, Earth Mother is as much a part of my spiritual cosmology as God/Creator/Great Mystery/Allah.
What I can share is that the ceremony with the medicine person for Mother was significant and I received very clear instructions on what was supposed to be in the book and how to frame it while still at the beach. I was even told at four a.m., while at the hotel near Assateague, to get up and claim my website domain: http://messagesfrommother.org/.
Messages From Mother…. Earth Mother might just be from Earth Mother. Only extremely gifted Native elders could discern this, in my mind. What I am certain of is that these messages are filled with significant wisdom and some surprises, even for me as I was typing them. I’m also certain that our world needs these messages—like yesterday. We have completely forgotten our connection to our Mother, Earth Mother. Most of us. And we are suffering the consequences. Mother wants us to be back in Sacred Relationship with her. And we can do this.
In the book, Sarah takes to the woods for solace, and some distance into the trail she meets an older woman dressed in medieval-looking clothes. Before Sarah realizes it, this woman convinces her that She is Earth Mother, and Earth Mother has some messages for the world. She has selected Sarah to be the messenger, and Sarah agrees to meet with Her every weekend in a Sacred Grove in the forest to transcribe messages.
Mother surprises Sarah with Her predilection for bad jokes, but has an absolutely huge heart for humans and all of their foibles. But Mother is not that happy—which is no surprise. What is a surprise is Earth Mother’s messages are as much about our spiritual development as they are about the horrendous things we are doing to Her across the planet. But She is very forgiving and just wants us to wake up and get a clue.
Earth Mother dictates to Sarah Her own set of 13 Commandments, and She includes more specific precepts with guidelines for how to live in balance on Her and with each other, including all the other living beings–the animals, fish, birds, etc.
An excerpt from Message Three – I’m Not Happy But I’m Not Dying:
… Many of my species babies have died or are in the middle of dying or being extirpated, a funny-sounding word that you two-leggeds have come up with in English. Extinction is forever when it comes to my species babies. It took me a very long time to bring those species into existence, so I’m none too happy about seeing them disappear in a snap. No, I’m not happy about that at all.
But it does give me great hope that so many of you love me. More and more of you are growing to love me more. And seeking to restore forests, and wetlands, and helping to heal certain corners of me. We just need a whole lot more of that going on and a lot less destruction, such as trees taken down and wetlands filled in.
You know I’m working on an evolutionary development for you two-leggeds, but it’s just taking too long. It’s something to do with an anti-greed vaccine, but I’m having a hard time getting the pharmaceuticals to support the research.
Just kidding! I don’t hang out with the pharmaceutical companies. I love the idea of an anti-greed vaccine, though…So I share these messages with you.

A beautiful post! All Earth Mothers are needed these days – West Coast, East Coast, North and South and all points in between. I am heartened that we keep fighting, and thank Smoky and Mare for trumpeting the values, humor, and nourishment of the archetype! Not sure if my last post went through about the wonders, delights, and spiritual value of veganism. I’m going on 3 years now, off my cholesterol medicine, slim as I need to be, and feeling so alive.
